Flying car gets closer to reality.

Woburn, Mass.-based Terrafugia Inc. said Monday that its prototype flying car has completed its first flight, bringing the company closer to its goal of selling the flying car within the next year. The vehicle — dubbed the Transition — has two seats, four wheels and wings that fold up so it can be driven like a car. Last month, it flew at 1,400 feet for eight minutes. Commercial jets fly at 35,000 feet.

Facebook offers Rs 1.34 cr package to Allahabad engineering student

ALLAHABAD: Social networking giant Facebook has hired an engineering student here for a fat annual pay package of Rs 1.34 crore, one of the biggest offers made to alumnus of any technical institution of the country.

According to P Chakravarti, Director of the Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology (MNNIT), a B.Tech student from the institute, who has requested that his name be withheld for "security reasons", received a letter on March 27 from Facebook confirming his appointment and the annual pay package on offer was stated to be USD 262,500 (around Rs 1.34 crore).

Vanya Mishra wins Miss India title

Mumbai, March 31:

Jalandhar girl Vanya Mishra was Friday crowned Pantaloons Femina Miss India (PFMI) World 2012 title at a gala event here.

She will represent India at the global pageant later this year.

Rochelle Maria Rao from Chennai won the title of Miss India International, while Prachi Mishra from Pune is Miss India Earth.

Hines Ward announces retirement

A four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver, announced his retirement Tuesday after 14 seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Ward, 36, owns Steelers' records with 1,000 receptions, 12,083 receiving yards and 85 receiving touchdowns. The 1,000 catches represent the eighth-best all-time total in the NFL.

He was a third-round pick by Pittsburgh in the 1998 draft and spent his entire career with the Steelers. The team released him last month.

Apple sells 3 mn new iPads since launch

It's taken just three days for Apple to sell 3 million of its new iPads. The new tablet launched on Friday March 16.

"The new iPad is a blockbuster with three million sold―the strongest iPad launch yet," said Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of worldwide marketing.

The new iPad features am ultra-high res Retina display, the new quadcore A5X chip, a 5 megapixel iSight camera, 1080p HD video, 10-hour battery life and 4G LTE networks in the US and Canada.

Explosions across Iraq kill at least 43

More than 30 bombs struck cities and towns across Iraq on Tuesday, killing at least 43 people and wounding about 250, despite a massive security clampdown ahead of next week's Arab League summit in Baghdad.

It was Iraq's bloodiest day in nearly a month, and the scale of the coordinated explosions in more than a dozen cities showed an apparent determination by insurgents to prove that the government cannot keep the country safe ahead of the summit.

Apple fans snap up new iPad

The new iPad went on sale on Friday with Apple fans lining up from Sydney to San Francisco to snap up the latest model of the hot-selling tablet computer.

Buyers in Asia, Europe and the United States praised the eye-poppingly sharp display on the new iPad but a device which is otherwise short on new technology failed to bring out the crowds seen at previous Apple product launches.

A queue of about 300 people wrapped around a corner of the Apple store in downtown San Francisco while close to 1,000 people lined up outside Apple's futuristic flagship location in Manhattan.

Tax exemption limit raised to Rs 2 lakh

Presenting the union budget for 2012-13 in the Lok Sabha, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said the upper limit for the 20 percent tax slab would be increased to Rs.10 lakh.

The Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee announced raising the tax exemption limit from the curent level of Rs 1.8 lakh to Rs 2 lakh. For income upto Rs 2 lakh, the tax deduction will now be nill. For those with an income between Rs 2-5 lakh the tax deduction would be 10%.

According to reports in a leading newspaper the Bachchans have decided to name their bundle of joy - Aaradhya Bachchan

Stage set for another Indian railway budget

Tata Megapixel is a new four-seater city-smart global range extended electric vehicle (REEV) concept for the performance-seeking and environment-conscious motorist anywhere in the world.

At the ongoing Geneva Motor Show, Ratan Tata and his successor to the Tata empire, Cyrus Mistry, took the wraps off Tata Motors' latest concept car, the Megapixel, which showcases the company's plans to enter the European market in a big way.

Mercedes rolls out ‘invisible’ car


When Mercedes wanted to promote its new fuel cell vehicle, instead of placing it squarely in front of everyone in the world, the company decided to make the car invisible.

In this clever publicity stunt, Mercedes wanted to emphasize that its F-Cell vehicle has no emissions, making it virtually invisible to the environment. The clever dudes did it by placing a mat of LEDs across one side of the vehicle and mounting a video-shooting Canon 5D Mark II digital SLR camera on the other side.

Ferrari unveils its fastest car ever


The fastest Ferrari ever was unveiled today – with a blistering price to match.

The new Ferrari F12 Berlinetta  has a top speed of 212miles per hour but it’s the rocket like acceleration which is drawing gasps ahead of its official launch at next week’s Geneva Motor Show when it goes on sale.

The scintillating two-seater roars from rest to 62mph in just  3.1 seconds – shaving 0.6 seconds off the car it replaces, the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano. And the Italian supercar will hit 124mph  in just 8.5 seconds, compared to 11 seconds for its predecessor.

Now, this is exactly what not to expect to be unveiled at Apple's iPad press event next week. A flurry of feature speculations have taken the web by storm following the news that the company will launch a product on March 7 in San Francisco,  previous video raked in nearly 50 million views on YouTube -- takes it a step further and opens up a world of possibilities for the future of tablets.

For example, it toys with the option of a 2560 x 1140 resolution edge-to-edge retina display, which gives the allusion of a larger visual screen area. The entire screen serves as the home button.

Massive Asteroid to Hit Earth in 2040 ?

Scientists are keeping a close eye on a big asteroid that may pose an impact threat to Earth in a few decades.

The space rock, which is called 2011 AG5, is about 460 feet (140 meters) wide. It may come close enough to Earth in 2040 that some researchers are calling for a discussion about how to deflect it.

Talk about the asteroid was on the agenda during the 49th session of the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS), held earlier this month in Vienna.

Microsoft unveils Windows 8 for consumer testing

Microsoft Corp unveils the first widely available test version of Windows 8 on Wednesday, giving the public the first chance to try out the slick, new-look operating system it hopes will restore the company's fading tech supremacy.

Windows 8, as the first Microsoft operating system compatible with low-power microprocessors designed by ARM Holdings Plc, will run on tablets as well as desktops and laptops.

Nokia launches 41-MP camera smartphone

In an attempt to revive Nokia against the swelling perception that it's a smartphone laggard, the company announced a slew of new phones at Mobile World Congress 2012 in Barcelona, Spain Monday. One of the many phones announced isn't quite a smartphone. But it does connect to Microsoft's Exchange Server. Another of the new phones runs the Symbian operating system and comes with a 41-megapixel camera. No. That's not a typo.

The day's big news for Nokia was the introduction of the Symbian-based 808 PureView. Harkening back to the days when some of Nokia's Symbian-based camera phones seemed to be more camera than they were phone, the 808 has a 41-megapixel sensor on board.

Kashmir Avalanches Kill 16 Soldiers

The death toll in twin avalanches in Jammu and Kashmir went up to 19 by Thursday afternoon, with all the casualties being army personnel, the army said. Three soldiers are still missing.

At least 16 army personnel were killed in Dawar in Bandipora district. Another three were killed in the avalanche in Sonamarg area of Ganderbal district, army officials said. Both the areas are in north Kashmir.

Millions of workers to strike across India on Tuesday

Millions of workers of all political hues will go on strike across the country on Tuesday to express their anger at soaring prices and to back demands for improved rights for employees, trade unions and political activists said. The strike, which will include workers from state-run phone companies, bus drivers and postal workers, is a new headache for Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's government as it grapples with weakening economic growth and faces elections in several states.

BSNL launches Aakash tablet's

BSNL, the state-owned telecom giant, has launched a new tablet in India that wants to take the failing Aakash tablet head-on. Noida-based company Pantel.

Technologies was tapped to produce the T-Pad IS 710r and it’s priced at just Rs. 3,250, or $66 approximately – a fraction above the $50 Aakash.

Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya Picture

Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya released today, is a upcoming Hindi Romantic Comedy film directed by Mandeep Kumar. The film stars Riteish Deshmukh opposite his real-life wife Genelia D'Souza in lead roles.

 This is the third film the couple star in, after their debut together in the 2003 box office disaster  Tujhe Meri Kasam and commercially successful Masti: Sanam Teri Kasam in 2004. It is also their first on screen pairing after their marriage.

Diljit Dosanjh and Veena Malik appear in cameo roles. Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya is jointly being produced by Tips Industries and UTV Motion Pictures.

Wipro Launched India’s Slimmest 14-inch Ultrabook

A series of ultra-portable notebooks were launched by Wipro Infotech, IT Business unit of Wipro Ltd, on Tuesday. The series is comprised of country’s slimmest and first 14 inch ultrabook called the Aero Ultra. The range also includes Aero Alpha and Aero Book.

Aero Ultra weighs about 1.7 kg with the thickness of 19.3mm, making it India’s slimmest notebook in the 14 inch category. It is facilitated with 4 GB memory and 500 GB hard disk.The Aero range is priced between Rs 39,000 and Rs 49,000.

The initial adoption of the product is expected to be at the enterprise level, a Wipro Systems and Technologies official revealed. He stated that the product is targeted for the progressive Indian on the move, demanding light-weight laptops in the country.

Reserve Bank of India(RBI) to issue Rs 10, Rs 1,000 notes with new rupee symbol

New Delhi: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is set to introduce Rs 1,000 denomination banknotes with inset letter "R" in both numbering panels in Mahatma Gandhi Series 2005.

The design of the notes, which will bear RBI Governor D Subbarao's signature, will be similar in all respects to the banknotes of Rs 1,000 in Mahatma Gandhi Series 2005 issued earlier except for the rupee symbol, the central bank said in a statement.

However, the notes in the denomination of Rs 1,000 issued by the RBI in the past will continue to be legal tender, it added.

New type of alien planet is steamy "waterworld"

A "Steamy Waterworld" is how scientists from Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics in Cambridge, Massachusettes describe the recently discovered planet.

The planet which they named GJ 1214b is considered as an alien type of planet, is larger than Earth and smaller than Uranus.GJ 1214b, also called "super earth" by scientists is located 40 light-years from Earth in the constellation Ophiuchus and researchers said that it is the newest so far out of the recent more than 700 hundred planet discovered beyond the solar system.

Latest Aakash Tablet not to Cost more

Aakash', the world's cheapest tablet, will be fully indigenous soon and its improved version will be launched by the government at the same price.

Telecom and HRD Minister Kapil Sibal said Datawind - the manufacturer of the product - will not be associated with it anymore and the Government has roped in C-DAC and ITI in further development of the tablet computer.

Communications Minister Kapil Sibal on Monday said an upgraded version of the tablet  PC "Aakash", supplied primarily to students at less than Rs.2,450 ($49) a piece, would not be hiked.

Esha Deol to get engaged


Bollywood actress Esha Deol is set to exchange rings with her long-time boyfriend Mumbai-based businessman Bharat Takhtani on Feb12, 2012, two days before Valentine's Day.

"Yes, it is going to be a traditional ceremony at their Juhu residence Sunday. It will be a family affair," Esha's manager confirmed.

The time of engagement is yet to be revealed, but the family is said to be excited.


 Daughter of veteran actors Hema Malini and Dharmendra, Esha began her tryst with Bollywood in 2002 with "Koi Mere Dil Se Poochhe". She went on to feature in films like "Chura Liyaa Hai Tumne", "Na Tum Jaano Na Hum" and " Dhoom".

Last year, Hema relaunched her 29-year-old with " Tell Me O Kkhuda", but it failed to resurrect her career as the movie tanked at the box office.

World's first bamboo smartphone(ADzero)

London, Feb 3 (ANI): A 23-year-old British student is to launch a new mobile phone, made largely from bamboo. The phone, made by Kieron Scott-Woodhouse, from London, runs Google's Android operating system, The Telegraph reports.

Scott-Woodhouse, who is a full-time student on Middlesex University's Product Design course, said he designed the phone in his spare time because he was frustrated that so many existing models looked similar to each other.

Southern star Dhanush has launched his new music album. The highlight of the album is a song which is a tribute to the legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar.

The song is titled 'Master Blaster you are our Boost'. The National award-winner Dhanush is an ardent fan of Sachin.

The video for the song has been conceptualised by the same team that came up with the superhit 'Kolaveri Di'.

The first auction for IPL 2012 is going to be held on 4th February 2012. 9 teams will be participating in the 5th season of IPL. As Kochi Tuskers have been scrapped from this edition, the former Kochi players will be the major attraction of IPL 2012.
